It’s true.  Amazon Associates can no longer use paid search engine techniques such as pay per click to generate money with Amazon.  At least that is the new policy just handed down 2 days ago via an email.

The smart money guys at Amazon determined that paying people to advertise products that they sell is no longer worth the money.  I don’t know about you but this really stinks and confirms my opinion of Amazon and the culture they have created.

Amazon associates have made good money referring people to their products using various methods on the Internet and Amazon has benefited greatly by this partnership.  I will have to say that pay per click straight to Amazon is a loser but it is great for testing markets to help Internet Marketers make a decision on a profitable niche.

Why is PPC straight to Amazon a loser?

Amazon does not pay enough to justify a fifty cent click let alone anything above that.  Amazon’s pay structure really blows for the amount of effort and money it takes to send people there.  I mean earning 4% on the sale of a product totally stinks.

I know some use Amazon for their lead generation.  After lead information is captured, they will be sent to Amazon so if a purchase is made the Internet Marketer can make a little cash to recoup the cost of advertising.  That method is no longer valid.

Sometimes I have to resort to Amazon just because of the shear variety of products.  Sure…I can use Click Bank or Commission Junction but sometimes I am testing to see what the customer wants to purchase.  Not what I shove down their throat.  I guess those days are gone.

Can you still make money with Amazon?

From reading their legal mumbo jumbo, I believe if you have a site that offers links to Amazon along with links to other sites you can still get paid for your efforts.  But don’t take my word for it.  Call them and find out.

You could be sending people to Amazon to make a purchase and then Amazon can simply say they are not going to pay you because you didn’t follow their legaleez bullshit.  I don’t get mad often but when you mess with other peoples business’s it tends to set me off.

Why are these buttheads doing this?

I would take a stab and say that Amazon makes good money because people go straight to their website to make a purchase.  Plain and simple…once people purchase from Amazon they tend to buy from there again and will not go to Google.

By closing the doors on ways people can advertise and grow a business, I think Amazon is shooting themselves in the foot.  For a company that was built by the Internet Marketing community, they sure are losing site of where they came from.

What is my prediction?

Well…Amazon Associates are going to stop sending people to Amazon.  Amazon will still make sales and over the next couple of years but I think their sales will decline over time.

Why will Amazon fail?

Because…Amazon will be making sales to the people who know about them and less new people will be coming to their site.  People still go to Google to search for products and information.  Internet Marketers will find other means to test new ideas for niches and Amazon will lose its sales force in the Internet community because there is no money in it.

I think this is a big mistake and Amazon should rethink their strategy.  And the ass-clown at Amazon who came up with this idea should be fired.

Just my opinion -
