In the previous post I discussed how you wanted to focus your articles for your blog posts.  In this article we are going to look at writing articles for article directories such as www.ezinearticles.com.

This is very important because your focus in these articles is going to be a little different than in your articles you write for article directories.  You want to provide good content for article directories but you want to give the reader a reason to visit your site.

Don’t let the cat out of the bag!

Articles you write for article directories should not answer any question.  This is different than your blog posts.  In your blog posts you want to answer a question or at least give the reader sound information to make a decision about.

From this point on, I am going to refer to articles you write for article directories as promotional articles because that is what they are.  Promotional articles are designed to interest the reader into going to your site.

Writing a promotional article should have a consistent thread of thought and not be all over the map.  When you write a blog post you are answering a question, doing a review, compare and contrast, or providing a point of view.

In your promotional article you are defining what the problem is.

This is very important and you want to make sure your promotional articles are fitting in this mold.  You are creating interest and desire for your reader to find out more.  If you do this in just the right way, you will get more traffic to your site and therefore giving you the opportunity to sell more stuff.

That means more money.

Lets say we are writing a blog post that discusses the benefits of using a particular fishing rod or maybe how better to use the fishing rod to increase the amount of fish you can catch.  This article should be about 600 to 800 words in length as a general rule.  Blog posts can be longer but if it gets too long you may want to break it up over several days.

So now we have a cool blog post that discusses a super wham-o-dine fishing rod and now we want to promote it by writing a promotional article to create interest and desire to come to our site to find out more.

A promotional article should be 300 to 500 words as a general rule of thumb.  The promotional article should discuss the problem found with other fishing rods and why it is a problem.

You want to go into detail explaining the problem so the reader now fully understands the problem…even if they do not fish.  Depending on your subject and problem statement you can go into really great detail so the reader fully understands the problem and sees how other solutions have come up short.

This is really crucial in your products problem.  Find other products or things that have tried to address the problem and point out if they came up short and how.  I am not saying bash other products because you want to sell stuff.  That is a big no no.

You want to be honest!

Let’s say a product does a really good job but it lacks something in your view.  Make sure the reader understands that in your opinion this product could be better and here is how…

After you have created you promotional article, you will want to submit that article to an article directory for approval.  Make sure the link to your blog post is in your bio box and let the reader know the solution to the problem is a click away.
