Welcome to my list of awesome web tools. This list will provide you with everything you need to get your Internet business off the ground. In order to start making money online you have to claim your own little piece of Internet Real Estate. This is where you start!
Some of these tools cost money and some a completely free. I try to give you both options with my view of which one is better. What do I mean by better? The tool that helps you be more productive in a shorter amount of time is what I view as being better.
I also let you know why each tool is important and a description of what it will do for you. So let's get started.

This is the place to start and it is one of the most important to your business so take some time with this one. The first thing you want to do is secure <yourname.com>. You want it so you have the website similar to mine...www.brianlyssy.com.
I know some names will be taken so you want to look for sites like www.first-last.com or www.whoisfirstlast.com or www.workwithfirstlast.com or something of that nature. This will help with your identity marketing which should come into play as you progress.
Now if your doing some niche marketing, you will want to get a website name that matches your niche. Don't get a site name like www.earnmoney.com if the site is all about running shoes. That doesn't make sense.
AS for securing your website name, I suggest www.filtereddomainregistration.com.
It has a simple interface and is easy to follow.

Having a domain name is awesome but if you want to do a blog or setup a sales page or pretty much do anything on the Internet...you have to get a hosting account. Hosting basically means you rent a computer that is always connected to the Internet with an assigned IP address so others can always find it.
There are all kinds of hosting accounts out there and I have found one that completely rocks.
www.hostgator.com
The reason I like this one so much is because I can host multiple websites on one account! Yes you heard me right. I can host as many websites as I want on one account.
Here's How To Save Major Bucks.
Get the "Baby Plan" when you sign up for hosting. This is a faily cheap hosting plan but one thing you will notice is you can have unlimited subdomains. This allows you to create many domain names and host them all on just one account for $7.95 per month.
I mean...think about it. Lets say you have 3 websites you need hosting for and you get 3 Hatchling Plans at $4.95 a piece. That is a total of $14.85 per month. By getting the Baby Plan you save yourself $6.90 per month. Now image if you have 10 or 15 sites. You see what I mean?

I am sure you've heard the saying "The Money Is In The List"...This is where it starts.
You have to setup an auto-responder account to start building your list. Now there are some free options you can use such as PHPList but I would not suggest doing that and here is why.
Due to spamming laws, you cannot move that list around. Let's say you have 5 different websites each with a list hosted on each account and you want to consolidate your list. You can't!!!
Another reason you want to use a third party auto-responder is to protect you from any spamming complaints. If you host your lists yourself, you will be completely responsible for any legal actions against you that some list member might bring on you. Plain and simple...Don't do it.
A great third party auto-responder is AWeber.
They are reasonably priced and they have great deliverability rates. There are other third party auto-responders who are cheaper but one thing that I found is that their deliverability stinks. You want to make sure you email's make it to their intended destination.
AWeber has a great deliverability rate and they are well viewed by other ISP's as not being spammers or anything crazy like that.
Start building your list right away so you can start making money on auto pilot.

What is FTP? It stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP is simply a way to get files from your computer to your host account. Remember that your host account is just another computer with the exception that it is always connected to the Internet.
FTP is nothing more than a way to copy files from one directory to another.
The FTP software that I use is WinSCP.
This is a direct download link that will start the process of installing WinSCP on your Windows machine. If you are using another operating system or would like to see other download options you can go to the main WinSCP Download Page.
I would suggest getting the latest stable installation package. This is a free program that is very easy to use. Once installed all you have to do is enter the domain name that you want to log into along with your username and password for the hosting accout. This is the same as the log in information you would use for your cpanel account.
The big thing is to make sure you change the defalut protocol from SFTP to just FTP. Don't worry about the port or anything else. When you connect the left side of the interface is your computer and the right side is your host computer. Just navigate into the public_html folder on the right side and then just drag and drop what you want to upload to your hosting account.

There are so many HTML editors out there that it can get a little confusing about which one to use. You can of course use something like Notepad or Word to create and edit HTML pages. I would not suggest using MS Word because of all the extra tags that get inserted into the code. It can render your pages useless in some browsers.
There is a pretty good HTML editor that you can get for free called NVU. This editor is completely free and does a lot of the basic functionality you will need. The problem is that as you do more things with this editor it can become unstable and crash.
For the serious online business, I would suggest using the premiere website authoring tools called Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 . This is the HTML editor I use and it has served me well. The price is a little on the high side but a definate must have for my business.
I actually use Adobe® Creative Suite® 4 Web Premium. package. They have packages for both the Window's platform and the MAC platform. Tons of great tools and of course amongst them is Adobe's Dreamweaver.

Here again we have tons of choices but I will cover two. One is free and the other cost money. The first one I will cover is a little program calld Gimp. This is a pretty cool image editor with tons of options. It can do a lot of stuff but it can be difficult finding tutorials on how to do stuff. If your building on a tight budget you might want to take a look at using Gimp for now and upgrade later.
The next image editor is Adobe® Photoshop® CS4 . This is another great product from Adobe and their image editor has all the bells and whistles. You can do tons of stuff with Adobe Photoshop and most designers use this editor. Hey...use what the pros use.
I think you can see that from the cost of Adobe's Dreamweaver and Photoshop there is good justification to getting Adobe® Creative Suite® 4 Web Premium. It has these two awesome products and tons of other cool stuff. If your serious about your business, then I would suggest getting the Adobe® Creative Suite® 4 Web Premium package.

Video (if not now) will be one of the most important aspects to your business. You will want to break out the cam corder and start making those cool videos that people flock to on sites like YouTube.com and other video sharing sites. When you create those videos you will want to do some things like brand your video with your website or just simply chop the first and last parts off.
The first option is once again the free route. Windows and MAC both have video editors that come standard with your operating system. These are good enough to do some basic editing but if you plan to do any kind of cool effects or you plan to turn those videos into DVD's then you need something with a little more beef.
I would suggest Sony Vegas Pro. This software package has it all and is a video making machine. Even if you shoot a video in poor lighting this thing will actually help you to correct the problems so your final video product looks awesome. You can even download a free trail so you can see exactly what I am talking about. |
